The day was bright and clear as 13 scouts and 4 leaders left the First Presbyterian Church of Logan at noon on Saturday, February 1st, and headed for Beaver Mountain. Saturday was filled with skiing, snowshoeing, snow fields, high speed sledding (after hours of course), and fun. The weather was cooperative--not as cold as Chicago, the roads were open--and it snowed most of the time, dusting the scouts with 2-3 inches of fresh white powder.
The scouts unpacked when we arrived at the yurt, and then the activities began. These continued throughout the day, and finished in the evening with the annual bonfire (make that camp fire), and a respectful flag retirement ceremony of the USA flag (given to ASM Stu Parkinson after being flown beside the Smithfield Post Office from 2011-2013).
The meals were warm and tasty, featuring the chili left over from our January Chili Dinner fund raiser. The boys tried hard to fill themselves up, but it was an on-going challenge.
Sunday started off with 6 scouts braving the mountains at Beaver with either downhill skiing or snowboarding. They were a hardy group, because the temperatures outside were frightful--but the scouts stayed with it until lunch time. In honor of Super Bowl XLVIII, and tradition, football games abounded in the snow.
All things aside, it was once again a great trip for all!
