Four members of Utah’s oldest scouting unit, Boy Scout Troop #1 from Logan, Utah performed a flag ceremony for the residents of Logan’s Terrace Grove Assisted Living Center this morning, in observation of Flag Day, which is officially June 14. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday.
As scout Nathan Cicco called the newest members of Troop #1 to attention, they then proceeded to post the colors of the USA flag, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Our unit’s newest scout members on the Flag Ceremonial Crew were: Mark Latvakoski, Payton Abdulla, and Luke Tidwell.
Troop #1, known throughout the state as a “community service” scout troop, will next perform a flag ceremony and flag retirement ceremony on Saturday, June 21 at the Cache County Fairgrounds from 1:00-1:30 pm for the Cache Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12076.
